Types of Retired Membership

There are three ways you can remain connected through retired membership, depending on your membership history and recognition:

  • Retired Member – For long-standing Members who have been practising for at least five continuous years prior to retirement and have ceased building surveying work.
  • Retired Fellow – For Fellows recognised by the AIBS Board for their contribution to the profession who are no longer practising.
  • Retired Life Fellow – For Life Fellows honoured by the AIBS Board for exceptional service and contribution who have fully retired.

All transfers to retired categories must be made in writing, supported by a statutory declaration, and approved by the CEO.

Eligibility and how to apply

If you have retired from active building surveying work and no longer hold registration in any jurisdiction, you may apply to transfer to a retired category.

Steps:

  1. Confirm eligibility – you must have been an AIBS Member for at least five continuous years prior to retirement.
  2. Complete a statutory declaration – confirming you are no longer practising or registered.
  3. Submit your request in writing – to the AIBS CEO for approval.
  4. Maintain your connection – once approved, continue to receive updates and event invitations.
