Richard qualified as a building surveyor in the UK, earning an Honours degree in Building Surveying from Heriot-Watt University and a Diploma in Building Studies. He emigrated to Australia in 1994 and began his career in building surveying within local government. After 12 years in the public sector, he co-founded Milestone Certifiers and has been a Director of the company since.
An active member of AIBS, Richard served on a Chapter Committee before being appointed as the WA Board Director. As a Board Director and Committee member, he has worked closely with industry stakeholders, including the state regulator and appointed Ministers, to advocate or co-regulation and the recognition of AIBS membership as a pathway to registration. He is a strong proponent of the AIBS Professional Standards Scheme, which is recognised as industry best practice. Richard was elected Vice President of the AIBS Board in 2024.
Outside of his professional commitments, he enjoys hiking and motorcycling through outback WA.
