Victoria Recognises AIBS Accreditation for Building Surveyor Registration

Victoria has joined South Australia, the ACT, and Queensland in recognising Australian Institute of Building Surveyors (AIBS) Accreditation as an approved pathway for building surveyor registration. This decision marks a key step toward harmonising regulatory processes across multiple states,  and simplifying the registration process for building surveyors, leveraging the AIBS Professional Standards Scheme and National Accreditation Framework.

With this change, AIBS accredited building surveyors no longer need to meet the Victorian Building Authority’s (VBA) standard assessment criteria when applying for registration. AIBS Accreditation will now serve as sufficient proof of qualifications and experience. However, the VBA will still conduct good character checks, including police clearances and financial probity reviews, to maintain essential standards of integrity.

The VBA’s recognition of AIBS Accreditation aims to create a faster, more accessible registration process, reducing administrative hurdles and saving time for applicants. This streamlined approach is expected to attract more qualified professionals to the sector, strengthening the state’s building industry and ensuring reliable standards through the National Accreditation Framework.

This initiative takes effect immediately, applying to all AIBS accredited professionals seeking registration in Victoria. The collaboration between the AIBS and the VBA ensures high professional standards are maintained while offering more efficient services to both industry professionals and the public.

The AIBS is committed to upholding these high standards and sees this partnership as an opportunity to encourage more professionals to register in Victoria. This alignment with the National Accreditation Framework will promote consistency across state borders, benefiting both industry practitioners and consumers.

AIBS is proud of the collaboration with the VBA in delivering this critically important change. This initiative is part of AIBS’ ongoing focus on ensuring that regulation and professional standards continue to meet the evolving needs of the industry and ensuring better outcomes for consumers.
