Who can apply

Associate Membership is for individuals with a professional interest in building surveying who do not fit within another AIBS membership category. This includes:

  • Allied professionals such as engineers, planners, architects or compliance consultants.
  • International professionals working in building regulation or certification.
  • Individuals who support or contribute to the goals of AIBS and the profession.

Frequently asked questions

How is Associate Membership different from Accredited Membership?

Associate Members do not practise as accredited building surveyors. The category is for professionals with an interest or involvement in the field rather than those seeking accreditation.

Do Associate Members have CPD requirements?

No. While CPD is not mandatory, you can attend AIBS CPD sessions and events at member rates to stay informed and connected.

Do Associate Members have voting rights?

No, Associate Members do not hold voting rights but can participate in AIBS events and initiatives.

Can international professionals apply?

Yes. International applicants are welcome to join as Associate Members and will be linked to an AIBS Chapter—usually NSW/ACT, unless another jurisdiction is nominated.
