Wayne has over 30 years’ experience as a building surveying practitioner and is recognised as an industry leader and expert in building control. He is a Director of the Gardner Group Pty Ltd as well as a Fellow and Board Director of AIBS, having been first elected to the AIBS Board in 2011 and serving as President since 2024. His extensive experience spans both the private and public sectors. He is registered as a Building Surveyor- Unlimited in Victoria, as a Building Surveying Practitioner Level 1 in Western Australia and as an Accredited Professional – Building Level 1 in South Australia. He is also an AIBS Accredited Level 1 Building Surveyor.
A passionate advocate for the building surveying profession, Wayne has held leadership roles including Chair of the AIBS National Technical Committee and member of the National Education Committee. He has represented AIBS on various bodies, including the Building Practitioners Board Victoria, the Building Advisory Council and the Building Regulations Advisory Committee. He is also currently a member of the Building Special Advisory Panel advising the Victorian Government on building issues.
Wayne’s contributions to the industry include leading the AIBS response to the 2009 Victorian Black Saturday bushfires and playing a pivotal role in the development of the AIBS submission to the Senate Inquiry into Non-Conforming Products in 2015. He also championed the development of the AIBS Professional Standards Scheme for Building Surveyors, which launched in 2021 as the only scheme of its kind in Australia.
His work with AIBS continues to focus on improving outcomes for building surveyors and consumers of building services.
