About this event
On 1 January 2009 changes were made to Schedule 3 of the Development Regulations 2008 to identify the criteria that allow the installation of solar photovoltaic panels without the need to obtain a Development Approval.
These criteria are:
- the panels must be installed on the roof of a building; and
- the weight of the panels must not exceed 100 kilograms at any point of attachment to the roof; and
- the panels (and any associated components) must not overhang any part of the roof; and
- the panels must be fitted parallel to the roof with the underside surface of the panels not more than 100 millimetres above the surface of the roof; and
- the panels must be installed by a person who holds an accreditation under a scheme recognised by the Minister for the purposes of this paragraph
For the purposes of (e), the Minister for Urban Development and Planning has recognised the following:
- accreditation with the Clean Energy Council;
- and completion of supplementary training provided by the AIBS
Development Approval is still required if the place where the solar photovoltaic panels are to be installed is a local heritage place and the system is able to be seen by a person standing at ground level in a public street.
