NSW/ACT Chapter | Canberra | AS3959 & Bushfire Verification Training

Event template 1
Mantra on Northbourne | 6 CPD Points | Grahame Douglas

About this Event - 15 February 2019

This is a not to be missed session for all building surveyors and allied professionals alike who deal with assessing buildings in bushfire prone areas. This training event will overview the new provisions within Australian Standard (AS3959-2018), the proposed verification method (for adoption in May 2019) and associated provisions in Planning for Bush Fire Protection (2018) as well as complying development provisions under the NSW Planning Scheme.

AS3959 has seen a number of important changes and has been updated from November 2018 as AS3959-2018. It is anticipated that this edition of AS3959 will be adopted for the NCC 2019. The STandard has sought to clarify a number of issues in relation to site assessments (including slope and vegetation) as well as some specific changes to construction, notably ta lower BALs.

In its endeavour to increase the use of performance the ABCB are also adopting a new verification method for bushfire, which utilises a simple and complex method. This includes the adoption od a 10% chance of ignition and acceptable probable exceedance levels depending on the class of building being designed in a bushfire prone area.

This workshop will identify the changes to AS3959 and illustrate how verification method can be used, as well as issues to consider when utilising the verification method for bushfire protection purposes. The relationship between planning and building will also be considered.

The workshop will explore real fire weather examples within the jurisdiction as well as show the opportunities and limitations of the bushfire verification method in support of performance based solutions.

Spaces are limited so get in quick.
