About this Event

This seminar will suit attendees wishing to update their skills related to timber frame construction and update them on the background to the new Mid-rise Timber Buildings provisions for Class 2, 3 and 5 Buildings contained in the National Construction Code 2016 Volume 1 (NCC), Building Code of Australia - Class 2 to Class 9 Buildings, which has been adopted by Australian States and Territories as of 1 May 2016.

The following topics will be covered:

Timber Building Systems
Review and provide an updated discussion of the latest innovative approaches for mid-rise timber buildings in Australia using large timber structural elements such as Cross Laminated timber (CLT), Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL) and Glulam as well as lightweight timber framed systems, taking into account feedback from the 2016 AIBS training series.

Design for Durability
Specific factors for durability and performance requirements for traditional and CLT timber construction types will be examined, such as:
specification,
detailing,
quality control during construction,
installation and maintenance.

An Overview of the NCC changes
Technical background to the changes
Fire provisions
Acoustic provisions
