The AIBS Board

The Board of the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors is comprised of representatives from each of our Chapters plus the Immediate Past President when applicable. The Board for 2020-2022 is listed below.

 

Troy Olds

President & Director SA


  Troy commenced his building surveying career in local government in 1996, and as a Director of Tecon Australia enjoys the challenges of operating a business in multiple legislative jurisdictions. 

As part of his commitment to the profession of building surveying, Troy was SA Chapter President for over 5 years only recently stepping down from the role. Troy has been involved with the SA Chapter since 2003, occupying key roles such as Secretary, Vice President as well State Conference Convenor. In 2016, Troy was recognized for his commitment to the profession receiving the AIBS Service to Building Surveying Award.

Troy also supports the profession having lectured at the University of South Australia and enjoys mentoring the next generation of building surveyors.  Troy is multi-skilled across a wide range of components of the development industry, including Building Surveying, Fire Engineering and Urban and Regional Planning.

With his appointment to the Board and elevation to National President, Troy is hoping to further establish strong relationships with the state regulators and drive the AIBS forward through challenging times and further enhance the profession of Building Surveying.

Outside of building surveying Troy enjoys spending time with family and playing AFL football for his local club.
     


 

Wayne Liddy

Vice President & Director VIC

  Wayne is a Director of the Gardner Group Pty Ltd, A Fellow, Vice President and Board Director (Victoria) of the AIBS. He has been a past Chapter President, has been an executive member of the AIBS since 2005 and is currently the AIBS nominated representative  on the  Building Advisory Council. He is the former Chair of the National Technical Committee and also served as  a member of the National Education Committee and the Building Practitioner’s Board, Victoria. 

Wayne has also tutored at Melbourne University, and Chairs the National Technical Committee of the AIBS.

He has overseen the AIBS response to the Victorian Black Saturday bushfires, including meeting with government bodies and ministers, and submitting a position paper and witness statement for the Bushfire Royal Commission.

Wayne has been a long-time advocate for the profession of Building Surveying and remains dedicated to delivering a robust building control system that supports a sustainable building industry providing better outcomes for consumers and industry.

With a young family to keep him busy, he also maintains a keen interest in thoroughbred racing and the Melbourne football club.
     

   

Damian O'Shannassy

Director NSW/ACT
Professional Practice Review Panel – Co-Chair

    Damian is currently Director of Planning and Development at Oberon Council having made a tree change in early 2021 following 8 years Ku-ring-gai Council. Damian leads and manages Council’s Planning and Development Department, ensuring statutory obligations are achieved and the delivery of services are consistent with Council’s goals and visions outlined in the Community Strategic Plan & LEP.

Damian was elected to the AIBS Board as the NSW/ACT Director in November 2020 having previously served on the NSW/ACT Chapter Committee for 14 years including 4 years as Vice President and 4 years as Chapter President until 2018. 

He has been a owner/Director of a small Building Regulation Consulting Company and has been a Building Surveyor in both local government and private practice for over 25 years and in the building industry for 35 years. 
     

 

Stacy Kennedy

  Stacy is a Director of A1 Express Plan Approval Services Pty Ltd and Board Director (Queensland & Northern Territory) of the AIBS. He has been an executive member of the AIBS Chapter Committee since 2007 and served as Chapter President from 2012 to 2015. During this time, he also served as a Government Appointed member of the Queensland Building Services Authority (BSA) Implementation Committee for overseeing the 10 point action plan and Deputy Member of the Pool Safety Council in Queensland.

Stacy started his career as an architect and licenced open builder in the late 80's. He later attained post graduate qualifications in building surveying/planning and fire safety engineering. He is currently completing a Masters in Business Administration and lectures part time for the CQU.

Stacy's love of snow skiing saw him become a ski instructor in Austria during a sabbatical and he maintains a keen interest in the sport.
     

 

Gabriel Barnes

  Gabriel is Director of Metrics Group Pty Ltd, Building Surveyors.  

A Fellow Member, Past State President and Secretary of the Tasmanian Chapter of AIBS and committee member for over 15 years, with over 25 years in Public & Private Building Surveying and 30 years’ experience in Building Construction, Design & Construction Management.

Gabriel is the Inaugural recipient of AIBS Tasmanian Chapters "Darrel Semple Award" for Innovation, Excellence and Professional Practice in Building Surveying, and continues to advocate for the professional standing of Building Surveying in the community and the improved professional practice of building surveyors.
     
   

Angela Lefante

  Angela has been working within Local Government since 2006 and is Principle Building Surveyor with a large team of Building Surveyors and Building Officers in different stages of study towards their Building Surveying registration within Western Australia. 

With a  genuine interest in training and mentoring staff and external students on their path towards being registered Building Surveyors,  Angela actively promotes the industry to students and allied professionals within the construction industry to consider advancing their careers by moving into the occupation of Building Surveying. This includes options for academic qualifications, industry skills, specialised knowledge and experience required for registration or accreditation.

Angela was appointed to the position of Building Surveyor representative on the Building Services Board for the State Government in December 2018, the main functions are to administer the building services occupations registration scheme; monitor qualification and training issues; advise the Minister for Commerce and Industrial Relations on matters relating to regulation; and make decisions on investigations and disciplinary matters.
