VALE Andrew Gibson

4 May 2020

On behalf of the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors and the Gardner Group Directors, staff and families, it is with a very heavy heart and great sadness we advise Andrew ‘Gibbo’ Gibson passed away peacefully on Friday morning, 1 May 2020.

Although we knew that the most recent news of his turn in health wasn’t going to be easy for him to fight, it seems that it was even bigger than we thought. We hope he is in peace and know that the pain is now gone.

You may from time to time hear someone talk about Gibbo, or mention some of the comments, jokes and sayings he would love to fill the room with.

Within the fun filled joker was also a man with absolute talent in the building surveying world. A man who made no enemies and would always look at the “how can we get this done” rather than “this is too hard” attitude.

He had a knack of bringing anyone on the journey to success....and be the first to have our backs in times of adversity or conflict. Nothing was ever too troubling for him and his technical expertise was second to none.

For those who had the pleasure of working with Andrew, hold his mentorship and words close to you and reflect on them through your lives - there will be few people like him. For those that may not have had the opportunity to work or be around him, take the time to find out a bit more if you ever hear his name mentioned in conversation.

Messages of condolences have been sent to his family and given the times we may not be immediately given the chance to celebrate his life. We are sure it will come at some point.

Until then, rest well our friend and be in peace.
