COVID-19 Permitted Work Rules - VIC

In response to enquiries related to the permitted work rules, we are advised that building surveyors are covered within the category of ‘Professional, Scientific and Technical Services’ in support of the ‘Construction’ sector where permitted construction is occurring.

You can find details which confirm this in the Stage 4 Restrictions table of Restricted Activity Directions (Restricted Areas) (No 6) effective as at 5 August 2020 from 11:59pm (Version 1.0) which is linked here.

There are now also provisions for those who need access to child care which can be found here where you will also find a link to the form for a permitted worker with childcare addendum and the form required for people working from home who also require access to childcare to facilitate working from home.

AIBS reminds members that it is vitally important that you do all you can to ensure that you are not contributing to the spread of the pandemic. Because building surveyors are required to visit multiple sites, there is high risk of economic impact should a building surveyor be infected. Now more than ever, building surveyors are crucial to economic success.

For this reason, despite having permitted worker status, you are urged to carefully consider all on-site work and focus on only those tasks that cannot be delayed through the current restriction period.  The short term pain from these decisions will support long term gain.
