AIBS Statement on Tasmanian Legislation Reforms

The Tasmanian Government has announced ground-breaking reforms to legislation which includes a risk based approach to the approval of building work and the registration of all practitioners in the building and construction industry in that State.

The announcement was made by the Hon Guy Barnett, Minister for Building and Construction, at the official opening of AIBS Tasmanian Chapter Conference 2016 in Hobart on Friday 16 September.

The legislative improvements are part of a package of reforms set to come into effect in Tasmania on 1 January 2017 and position Tasmania as the most progressive State in the Australian building and construction industry.

AIBS has worked closely with the Government of Tasmania to develop the reforms which also provide strengthened immunity for building surveyors while undertaking their statutory duties.

AIBS calls on the governments of all Australian States and Territories to follow the nation-leading example of Tasmania.
