This event provides participants with a practical and engaging introduction to the Environment, Resources and Development Court (ERD Court), followed by an interactive session exploring court processes and expectations for expert witnesses.
Part 1 – 10:00am to 11:30am - Participants will attend the Environment, Resources and Development Court for an immersive, guided experience hosted by a Court Commissioner. Including a walkthrough of the courtroom(s), offering participants a firsthand understanding of how the Court operates and will involve informal discussions covering:
• Court rules and etiquette
• Order of proceedings
• Court processes and how hearings are conducted
• Key roles and responsibilities within the court
• Core functions of the Environment Court
• Procedural expectations
Part 2 – Interactive Session at Adelaide Town Hall - 12:00pm to 2:00pm
A short walk from the courtrooms to Adelaide Town Hall this session will focus on an interactive and conversational experience. The session will be facilitated by:
• Victoria Shute, Director, Kelledy Jones Lawyers
• James Roder, Barrister, Howard Zelling Chambers
Key discussion topics will include:
• Recap of the Order of Proceedings
• Expectations of expert witnesses during court matters
• Types of questions asked in court and their purpose
• How interviews and cross-examinations are conducted
• How judicial decisions and judgments are formed
This event is designed to provide both practical exposure and expert insight, enhancing participants’ confidence and understanding of court procedures and expectations.
