AIBS has developed a training event specifically for building surveyors, fire safety engineers and allied professions. This event will detail the NCC 2019 BCA Vol. 1 Part C provisions and will include information on what has changed, implications for design and assessment practice, clarification to assist interpretation including concessions for class 2 & 3 buildings utilising light or timber framing and the new Fire Safety Verification Method.  A formal presentation and background including interpretation of Part C will proceed a practical workshop scenario providing an opportunity for attendees to deal with the new Fire Safety Verification Method.  

A practical approach will deliver key learnings and more importantly provide consistency of interpretation of relevant parts of Vol. 1 Part C and provide an introduction on the application and use of the new Fire Safety Verification Method.

This is a training session that will suit those who are both new to the industry or experienced professionals, providing up to date and relevant training.

This training will be delivered in four parts over the day;

Session 1 - BCA Vol. 1 Part C
Fire Safety Changes introduced to the NCC 2019, interpretation of deemed to satisfy provisions including concessions and consistency of interpretation referencing the ABCB advisory note for class 2 & 3 buildings use of timber framing and/or non-combustible materials.

Session 2
Introduction to the Fire Safety Verification Method, governing requirements and application. 

Session 3 
Workshop example – applying the FSVM to a residential building.

Session 4
Conclusions and wrap up of proceedings

Attendees should bring with them or have access to the current version of the BCA Vol. 1.

About the Speakers:  

Ari Akritidis 

 

 

Ari Akritidis is Managing Director of Akritidis Building Consultants, a medium sized building surveying company providing statutory consulting services throughout Australia. He is a registered building surveyor in Victoria since 1996, registered as a fire safety engineer since 2002, and also registered for practice in the ACT and Western Australia. 

Ari is a current serving member of the Building Appeals Board (BAB) and the Building Regulations Advisory Committee (BRAC) as appointed bythe Minister. 

He is a member of the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors (AIBS) National Technical Specialist Advisory Group (TSAG) providing specialised technical advised to the AIBS for the adoption across State and Federal jurisdictions. 

Ari has previously served as a member of the Building Practitioner Board and the Australian Standards Committee for AS 2047 Doors and Glazing, He has been active member of the building industry throughout his career and continues to strive for improved professional practices across all building disciplines and sectors. 

 

 Stephen Kip

 

Stephen Kip has been a Director of SKIP Consulting, an engineering and regulatory consultancy firm for the past 8 years. 

Prior to that he has held senior engineering positions with Warrington Fire Research (now Exova Warrington Fire) and the Building Research Association of New Zealand (BRANZ) and was the deputy to the Building Commissioner at the Building Control Commission in Victoria, Australia. 

He holds a Degree in Building and a Masters Degree in Engineering and has additional post graduate qualifications in Fire Safety Engineering and Building Project Management. He is a Board member of the Australian Building Building Codes Board, a Fellow of Engineers Australia, an Honorary Fellow of the academic staff of the University of Melbourne School of Architecture, and a Associate of the academic staff at the Centre of Environmental Safety and Risk Engineering at Victoria University.

Cancellation Policy: Refunds for registrations should be provided in writing to [email protected] as outlined below and calculated from the first day of training:
 More than 30 days - Full refund
 Between 7 and 30 days - 50% refund
 Less than 7 days - No refund

Participants may transfer their registration to another training session up to one (1) working day prior to the commencement of the training day without loss of funds.

Payment Policy: Payment is required PRIOR to attending the event.
  • All registrations are confirmed upon completion of registration and issue of an invoice
  • Payment terms on all invoices are the earlier of 14 days from the date of invoice, or prior to the first day of the event (where registration is completed and invoice issued less than 14 days from the first day of the event).
