NSW/ACT Chapter | Rosehill: Waterproofing Wet Areas and Near Flat Roof Structures

31 October 2018, Rosehill | 6 CPD

-
AIBS is pleased to bring to you a training seminar series focused on waterproofing.

One of the most common sources of consumer complaints about residential buildings in Australia relates in some way to leaks from wet areas or from balconies and other near flat roof structures.

This is not just an Australian issue.  New Zealand, with climatic conditions that are akin to an accelerated weathering station, has also seen its fair share of waterproofing failures.

We are pleased to have partnered with experts from New Zealand to deliver a training seminar aimed at providing delegates with the benefit of the New Zealand experience together with the latest information tailored to Australian conditions on this important issue.

Thomas is the director of Helfen Limited and Facade Testing NZ Limited and has an extensive background in the construction and related industries spanning over 30 years.   Thomas’ experience includes building surveying, he is a Remediation Specialist within the New Zealand Institute of Building Surveyors (and a past Executive member) and is a respected expert in building related litigation.  Thomas actively participates and is a member of various professional bodies within the building industry.  His experience has lead him to contribute to teaching within the industry, input towards DBH publications and he is currently involved with the BRANZ Mid-Rise Guidance Group and is an executive member of The Building Enclosure Council of New Zealand.  Thomas is actively involved with the testing of building materials and building facades.

Topics to be covered in this seminar series include:

  • NCC BCA 2016 performance provisions related to waterproofing;
  • NCC BCA 2016 Acceptable Construction Manual (ACM) provisions for waterproofing including AS3740 and AS4200 requirements;
  • typical failure consequences;
  • common failure modes;
  • detailing necessary to demonstrate compliance with performance and ACM;
  • evidence of suitability demonstrating compliance with the above;
  • product testing and relationship to specific situations – i.e. when this is not adequate to demonstrate compliance; and
  • sources of information that may assist in undertaking assessment or inspection functions.

 The event is designed to be suitable for building surveyors, design practitioners, builders and wet area and membrane roofing system contractors.
