The AIBS Board

The Board of the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors is comprised of representatives from each of our Chapters plus the Immediate Past President. The Board for 2016-2018 is listed below.


 

Tim Tuxford

President | Director NSW/ACT


  Tim Tuxford is a local government practitioner who has worked in the industry for over 30 years, commencing his employment as a Trainee Health & Building Surveyor with Camden Council in 1981.  Tim is currently the Manager – Compliance at Woollahra Council, a position he has held for 10 years.

During Tim’s time in local government he has held a variety of roles and has worked in new release, country and inner city councils in New South Wales.  One of the most rewarding moments in his career was the work he undertook for Newcastle City Council following the 1989 earthquake.  Tim and many other Building Surveyors were seconded to Newcastle City Council to assist in the assessment of earthquake-damaged buildings in an effort to identify, prioritise and streamline the necessary rectification works.

While active in the South-western Sydney branch of the AIBS in the mid-to-late 1980’s, Tim only became a member of the New South Wales/ACT Chapter Executive Committee (CEC) in August 2014.  Tim commenced his term as the New South Wales/ACT Board Director in October 2014, and he is looking forward to the challenges ahead, working to promote and enhance the Building Surveying profession.
     


 

Wayne Liddy

Vice President | Director VIC


  Wayne is a Director of the Gardner Group Pty Ltd, A Fellow, Vice President and Board Director (Victoria) of the AIBS. He has been a past Chapter President, has been an executive member of the AIBS since 2005 and is currently the AIBS nominated representative  on the  Building Advisory Council. He is the former Chair of the National Technical Committee and also served as  a member of the National Education Committee and the Building Practitioner’s Board, Victoria. 

Wayne has also tutored at Melbourne University, and Chairs the National Technical Committee of the AIBS.

He has overseen the AIBS response to the Victorian Black Saturday bushfires, including meeting with government bodies and ministers, and submitting a position paper and witness statement for the Bushfire Royal Commission.

Wayne has been a long-time advocate for the profession of Building Surveying and remains dedicated to delivering a robust building control system that supports a sustainable building industry providing better outcomes for consumers and industry.

With a young family to keep him busy, he also maintains a keen interest in thoroughbred racing and the Melbourne football club.
     

 

Stacy Kennedy

Director QLD/NT


  Stacy is a Director of A1 Express Plan Approval Services Pty Ltd and Board Director (Queensland & Northern Territory) of the AIBS. He has been an executive member of the AIBS Chapter Committee since 2007 and served as Chapter President from 2012 to 2015. During this time, he also served as a Government Appointed member of the Queensland Building Services Authority (BSA) Implementation Committee for overseeing the 10 point action plan and Deputy Member of the Pool Safety Council in Queensland.

Stacy started his career as an architect and licenced open builder in the late 80's. He later attained post graduate qualifications in building surveying/planning and fire safety engineering. He is currently completing a Masters in Business Administration and lectures part time for the CQU.

Stacy's love of snow skiing saw him become a ski instructor in Austria during a sabbatical and he maintains a keen interest in the sport.
     

 

Gabriel Barnes

Director TAS


  Gabriel is Director of Metrics Group Pty Ltd, Building Surveyors.  

A Fellow Member, Past State President and Secretary of the Tasmanian Chapter of AIBS and committee member for over 15 years, with over 25 years in Public & Private Building Surveying and 30 years’ experience in Building Construction, Design & Construction Management.

Gabriel is the Inaugural recipient of AIBS Tasmanian Chapters "Darrel Semple Award" for Innovation, Excellence and Professional Practice in Building Surveying, and continues to advocate for the professional standing of Building Surveying in the community and the improved professional practice of building surveyors.
     

 

Gary Fitzgerald

Director WA


  Gary has had a diverse professional career having worked in Local Government as Building Surveyor and Town Planner in senior positions for over 20 years. In 2014 he started his own business as a Building Surveyor and Town Planning Consultant before joining Tecon Australia as a partner/director of Tecon WA Pty Ltd.

He holds qualifications in Environmental Health, Building Surveying Level 1 and Urban and Regional Planning. He is a member of the AIBS (Fellow) and the Planning Institute of Australia (Certified Practicing Planner).

Gary‘s passion and commitment for the profession has seen him taking a lead role in the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors at a state level. He has recently resigned from the position of AIBS WA State President after serving 3 terms in that role. His involvement with the AIBS has involved him being representative on a number of key industry stake holder groups and committees.

In November 2016 Gary was elected as the WA National Director on the Board Of the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors.

Gary lives in Bunbury WA with his wife Maria and enjoys the delights offered in Coastal City. He admits to being an old surfy at heart and spends any spare time surfing fishing or diving. Both Maria and Gary have a strong connection to the local community and are intricately involved in a number of volunteer organisations.


 

Troy Olds

Director SA


  Troy commenced his building surveying career in local government in 1996, and as a Director of Tecon Australia enjoys the challenges of operating a business in multiple legislative jurisdictions. 

As part of his commitment to the profession of building surveying, Troy was SA Chapter President for over 5 years only recently stepping down from the role. Troy has been involved with the SA Chapter since 2003, occupying key roles such as Secretary, Vice President as well State Conference Convenor. In 2016, Troy was recognized for his commitment to the profession receiving the AIBS Service to Building Surveying Award.

Troy also supports the profession by tutoring at the University of South Australia and enjoys mentoring the next generation of building surveyors.  Troy is multi-skilled across a wide range of components of the development industry, including Building Surveying, Fire Engineering and Urban and Regional Planning.

With his appointment to the Board, Troy is hoping to further establish strong relationships with the state regulators and drive the AIBS forward through challenging times.

Outside of building surveying Troy enjoys spending time with family and playing AFL football for his local club.
