Private Certification: the evolution continues.

Private certification in South Australia is evolving.  Originally limited only to Building Rules consents, it has been expanded over time to include Certificates of Occupancy, and Development Plan consents for Residential Code developments.  

The new Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016 provides for a large number of decisions to be made by accredited professionals.  

The intent behind the new Act is to provide greater choice and efficiency for developers.  The question remains, will this intent be achieved?  Will accredited professionals be able to make decisions efficiently, or will they be bogged down in administrative “red tape”?  What are the costs and benefits to stakeholders?  What can be done when disputes arise?  What will the new system entail?  What opportunities and risks does the new system present to developers and decision-makers?

About the Speaker: 

Victoria Shute   Victoria is a specialist practitioner in building, development and environmental law and provides advice and representation exclusively to councils and statutory bodies.  She has delivered numerous presentations on the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016 to councils, practitioners and to the legal profession.
