About this Event

For Building Surveyors, protection works remains one of the more challenging aspects to be dealt with in our daily operations, due in no small part to the potential for disastrous consequences and the need to ensure our actions and procedures are professional and unbiased.

This workshop will address the topic with a focus on our statutory obligations together with common law expectations for protection of adjoining properties and the public. The various players and their respective roles and responsibilities will be discussed for purposes of full overview.

Legislation outlined in the Act, Regulations and the Occupational Health and Safety Act will be dissected, and any possible changes arising from the sunsetting of the Regulations affecting this topic explored. Scenarios such as stage permits, demolition works, tilt-panel installation, swimming pools and alterations to a building remaining in use over the course of the building works will form part of the workshop.

In addition to this, an analysis of common Engineering ‘solutions’ used in the design and big-picture issues such as insurance, occupational health and safety, and Court/Tribunal determinations will be discussed.

This workshop will include the release of an AIBS Practice Note outlining our benchmarks. See the program below for a session in your area.
