On behalf of the AIBS National Board and the QLD Chapter Organising Committee, I invite delegates, guests, presenters and sponsors to participate in the 2010 AIBS International Conference. The theme of this conference is ‘Racing Ahead’, a theme that may also apply to many of us in our endeavours within the profession of building surveying.
In my short 20 years in the profession I have seen the role and responsibilities of the Building Surveyor expand along with the necessary professional development each of us have had to undertake to ‘race ahead’ of our competitors and to at least maintain our level of business, if not to improve our market share. This applies equally to the public and the private Building Surveyor.
We have seen many amendments to the Building Code of Australia (BCA) and Australian Standards since the introduction of the BCA in 1990. The AIBS have also had to ‘race ahead’ and continually evolve to order to improve our services to our members. This is an ongoing important role of the AIBS and one that the Board has given a high priority. The Board has also fostered a number of international relationships and you will hear from some of our international delegates throughout the conference.
During this conference there will be a variety of topics presented that will update you on a number of professional and technical issues, as well as improvements to AIBS services. The program will enable you, as professionals, to ‘race ahead’ in your profession and business regardless of your public or private Building Surveyor status. Keeping abreast of change in our profession and constantly upskilling is a must in today’s environment and this year’s conference will assist you to do just that.
